The History of HMCS RIBBLE
Named for an English river, Ribble was built for the RN but commissioned in the RCN as a new ship at Blyth, U.K., on July 24, 1944. After workups at Tobermory she arrived at Londonderry on September 4 to join the newly formed EG 26 the following month. She spent her whole career with this group, based much of the time at Portsmouth and Plymouth, and from October 7 to 9, 1944, towed the damaged HMCS Chebogue toward Swansea, Wales. She was paid off at Sheerness on June 11, 1945, and returned to the RN, and after 12 years in reserve at Harwich was broken up in 1957 at Blyth.
