HMCS OUTREMONT

The History of HMCS OUTREMONT

Commissioned at Quebec City on November 27, 1943, Outremont arrived at Halifax on December 13 and carried out working-up exercises in St. Margaret's Bay. She left St. John's on February 17, 1944, to join EG 6, Londonderry, and served mainly on escort and patrol duties in U.K. waters. She was present on D-Day. She left the U.K. on November 30 for tropicalization refit at Sydney, which kept her idle until August 20, 1945, only to be paid of November 5 and sold to Marine Industries Ltd. Later reacquired by the RCN and converted to a Prestonian class ocean escort, she was recommissioned September 2, 1955, and served in a training role until finally paid off June 7, 1965, and broken up at La Spezia, Italy, the following year.
