HMCS CHARLOTTETOWN (1st)
Commissioned at Quebec City on December 13, 1941, Charlottetown arrived at Halifax on December 18. She was a member of WLEF until mid-July, 1942, when she was transferred to Gulf Escort Force owing to increased U-boat activity in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. She was employed as escort to Quebec-Sydney convoys until September 11, 1942, when she was torpedoed and sunk by U 517 in the St. Lawrence River near Cap Chat, Que. Nine of her ship's company were lost. She had earlier delivered convoy SQ.35 to Rimouski and was en route back to Gaspé, her base, at the time.
11-Sep-42, Torpedoed and sunk in the St. Lawrence, near Cap Chat Quebec, by U517. She had just delivered a convoy to Rimouski and was returning to Gaspe. Nine of her ship's company were lost.
