"Chief Stoker Petty Officer Dillabough displayed gallantry after the torpedoing of HMCS Chebogue, making his way to the second boiler room and shutting off the fires. At this time, the ship was beginning to settle by the stern and thought to be sinking. He later performed damage control duties with zeal, patience and cheerfulness which set an example of wholehearted devotion to duty, worthy of the highest traditions of the Canadian Navy."
