"In recognition of exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service in the rescue of the crew of a B-29 aircraft of the United States Air Force which crashed at sea near Bermuda in November 1949."

Note: From Crowsnest Magazine: "He was coxswain of the Haida's seaboat. He has been honoured for outstanding initiative and coolness in taking his whaler through heavy seas, taking in tow the survivor’s boat and bringing them alongside HMCS Haida."
