"Lieutenant Mackie was appointed to the United Kingdom in charge of the first draft of Wrens to proceed Overseas, in August, 1943. From that time onward she was responsible for welfare of the constantly increasing number of ratings of the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service in London. Her duties have been performed with the highest efficiency and utmost cheerfulness at all times."
