"Chief Petty Officer Taylor's general performance of duties throughout his twenty-one months at sea has been outstanding and his unfailing zeal, patience and cheerfulness, under trying conditions in the North Atlantic have been an example to the ship's company. On one occasion, he acted as coxswain of volunteer life boat's crew in rescuing survivors from a torpedoed and sinking merchant ship in heavy seas, in the face of the enemy."
