The badge design depicts a moose standing in water in an attitude of watchfulness. Not only is the animal a strong swimmer, but also has a keen sense of smell and hearing. As such it is very difficult to surprise. It was these qualities that were depicted as attributes of the ship as well.
Originally the American Yacht Cleopatra, she was commissioned in September 1940, and wearing pennant Z14, served until paid off in July 1945.
