"For coolness and courage following a collision in which his ship was involved. Following a collision involving HMCS Mahone and S.S. Fort Townsend, this rating was trapped between decks with tow other ratings, one of who was seriously injured. He forced open a skylight and assisted both of them to escape before making his own way to safety."
