"This Rating has been a member of the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve for the past seven years. He has had five years' service in Defensively Equipped Merchant Ships, fifty-five months of which were spent at sea. During this time, he has exhibited an unsurpassed ability as a Gunlayer, and has carried out the duties and responsibilities of that job with marked zeal and efficiency."
