"On 2nd October, 1952, and enemy shell struck the ship in the quarters where he was serving as gun captain. Although several of his men were killed or wounded, by his example of courage and coolness, he rallied the gun crews and kept his guns in action. His outstanding bravery and leadership inspired the men serving under him."
