"On the occasion of the explosion at the Naval Magazine, Bedford, Halifax, in July 1945, this Patrolman entered the south area in an endeavour to combat the fire. He was trapped there by explosions and fire, escaping the following morning. His bravery and coolness were in keeping with the high traditions of the Royal Canadian Navy."
