This badge depicts the lion rising out from the water by means of its wings and assuming a lighting posture.
The squadron was originally one of the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm, Squad,:on 803 which had been disbanded in 1944, one of its former members haVlilg bee~ Lieutenant Robert Hampton Gray, VC, DSC, RCNVR. Re-formed on June 15, 1945 in Scotland, the squadron became RCN on January 24, 1946, the date of the commissioning of HMCS Warrior. On January 15, 1951 she became part of the 19 Support Air Group in Shearwater, and was renumbered VF-870 on May 1, 1951. The unit was disbanded in September, 1962.
