The village of Rockcliffe is situated close to Ottawa While it has no civic crest, the parklands of the area abound with small animals, especially the black squirrel, and wild flowers are in abundance. The fid or marlin spike between the squirrels paws represents the naval aspect of the badge.
Rockcliffe was an Algerine class minesweeper. She was commissioned in September 1944, and wore pennant J355 until she was paid off in July 1945. She was later recommissioned and wore pennant 173 until finally paid off in August 1950.
