Significance

A helmet is an instrument of protection, and in this instance, having the coronet trimmed with fleurs-de-lis, the device of former Royal France, it becomes a "protecteur".

Remarks

Protecteur was an Operational Support Vessel. She was commissioned in August 1969, and wore pennant 509 until being paid off in 2015. A new Protecteur is bing built.
