Significance

The life preserver is a rebus on the ship's name and with the red maple leaf gains Canadian identification. The starburst in the centre symbolizes the flare that is automatically ignited when the life preserver touches the water.

Remarks

Preserver (I) was a Fairmile Base Supply Ship. She was commissioned in July 1942 and was paid off in November 1945. Preserver (II) was an Operation Support Ship. Commissioned in July 1970, she wore pennant 510 until she was paid off in 2016. A third Preserver is being built.
