Significance

The plough in this badge is derived from the civic crest for Portage la Prairie in Manitoba. The plough represents the ship as she cuts as straight and even path to her destination.

Remarks

Portage was an Algerine class minesweeper. She was commissioned in October 1943, and wore pennant J331 until she was paid off into reserve in July 1946. She was reactivated several times after 1947, and wore pennant 169 until she was finally paid off in September 1959.
