Significance

New Waterford was a River class frigate. Commissioned in January 1944, she wore pennant K321 until she was paid off in March 1946. After her conversion to a Prestonian class escort, she was recommissioned in January 1958 and wore pennant 304 until finally paid off in December 1966. This ship is named after the Nova Scotia town of New Waterford which likely received its name from settlers who migrated from Waterford, Ireland. From the arms of the Irish town comes the dolphin of this badge.
