Significance

This design follows Canadian Forces badge conventions: royal crown and maple leaf wreath for national identity, a functional symbol (the cogwheel for communications/signals work), and culturally relevant local imagery (the Haida-style central device, as Masset is on Haida Gwaii in British Columbia).

Remarks

Masset was located on the north coast of Graham Island in the Haida Gwaii archipelago (formerly the Queen Charlotte Islands) in British Columbia, Canada. From 1949 to 1957, the station was known as NRS Masset. Between 1957 and July 11, 1966, it was called Her Majesty's Canadian Naval Radio Station (HMC NRS) Masset. After that as part of the unification of the Canadian Forces, the name became Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Masset and was part of the Canadian Forces Supplementary Radio System.
