Significance

This ship is named after the Margaree River in Cape Breton. Margaree is a corruption of the name Marguerite which was the original name of the river. The badge design displays an heraldic representation of a river over which is depicted a flower of the marguerite or daisy plant.

Remarks

Margaree (I) was a River class of destroyer. Originally HMS Diana, she was commissioned into the RCN in September 1940. She wore pennant H49, and was lost in October 1940. Margaree (II) was a member of the St. Laurent class of destroyers. She was commissioned in November 1956, then underwent conversion to the helicopter carrying destroyer configuration. Wearing pennant 229 she was recommissioned in October 1964. She was finally paid off in 1992.
