Significance

Kapuskasing is a northern Ontario town noted for its pulp and power industries. The word itself is said to have originated from an Indigenous term meaning "branch river" or "divided waters." This is an obvious reference to the confluence of the Kapuskasing and Moose rivers.The badge has a field of green to represent the forested terrain of the area and bears a "Y" to show the joining of the rivers.

Remarks

Kapuskasing was an Algerine class minesweeper. She commissioned in August 1944, and wore pennant J326 until she was decommissioned in March 1946. In 1949, she was recommissioned, and served with the Department of Mines under pennant 171 until paid off in 1972.
