(Glossary of Heraldic Terms)

Significance

The black and yellow background is symbolic of the long seasonal arctic nights and days. The Eskimo is used here in reference to the meaning of the work "Inuvik" - The Place of Man, or The Place Where Man Is. He is shown in the act of hurling a flash of lightning, as a reference to communications.

Remarks

Inuvik was established as one of HMC NR stations on March 12, 1961 although it did not commence operations until March 20. Its predecessor had been HMC NRS Aklavik, located in a town of the same name in the Northwest Territories. On September 10, 1963, the station was renamed HMCS Inuvik. After unification, she became CFS Inuvik.
