(Glossary of Heraldic Terms)
The thistle is from the Arms of the City of Glace Bay. It is placed upon a white V-shaped of heraldic component representing the iced waters of the bay from which the City derives its name. The colour black represents the coal mines which were at the origin of the settlement.
