Significance

The ostrich which is taken from the crest in the arms of William, 5th Baron Byron, father of the Honourable Robert Digby, Rear-admiral of the Red, and Commander-in-chief in North America (1781-1783), in whose honour the town of Digby, Nova Scotia is named. The gold disc symbolizes a mine, in reference to the function of HMCS Digby as a minesweeper.

Remarks

A member of the Bangor class of sweeper, Digby was commissioned in July 1942, and wore pennant J267 until she was paid off into reserve in February 1945. She was recommissioned in April 1953 and wore pennant 179 until being finally paid off in November 1956.
