Significance

The devices used in the design are intended to explain the role d'Iberville played in the navy as a bridge between the two official languages in Canada in so far as life at sea and in the navy is concerned. The bridge with battlements refers to matters of defence and the water in the base suggests a nautical foundation. The red rose stands for the English language and the blue fleur-de-lis, the French tongue. The shield or escutcheon displays the Arms of d'lberville, after whom this establishment was named.
