Blazon Argent, on a mount vert, a cornish chough, wings elevated sable, beaked and legged gules.
(Glossary of Heraldic Terms)
Commemorates the Honourable Edward Cornwallis first Governor of Nova Scotia from 1749 to 1752. In so doing, a device from his family's arms was used, namely the chough. It was depicted standing on a green mount to signify that this was a shore establishment.
Cornwallis was established in Halifax in May 1942, and was the Naval Training Center until April 1943. It was then moved to Deep Brook, Nova Scotia, where its training functions continued. Upon unification, it was renamed CFB Cornwallis and trains all recruits for the three services.
