(Glossary of Heraldic Terms)

Significance

The cormorant is a splendid swimmer and is able to travel for long distances under the water. In the air, it is a very powerful flier. These are the qualities reflected in this badge. The base of water has been shown as green (vert), the colour of the sea from below the surface, the implication being that both the bird and the ship demonstrate endurance and agility in plying the sea around Canada and the world.

Remarks

Cormorant (I) was a member of the Bird class of patrol craft. Commissioned in July 1956, she wore pennant 781 until she was paid off in May 1963. Cormorant (II) was the former Italian trawler Aspa Quarto.
