(Glossary of Heraldic Terms)

Significance

This naval establishment carried on its strength those responsible for the direction of the Canadian Navy. The use of the heraldic form of a rudder is symbolic of this task of maintaining a course. The use of the red maple leaf indicates, of course, that this is a Canadian establishment, and the green background signifies that it is located ashore.

Remarks

Bytown was the name of the Naval Headquarters in Ottawa from June 1, 1941 until December 6, 1964. The name was also used for the WRCNS training establishment in Galt Ontario between October 1942 and June 1943. The name here was then changed to Connestoga.

Colours

Gold and emerald green.
