A winged trident piercing the shank of an anchor.
(Glossary of Heraldic Terms)
This badge represents the blows struck against enemy shipping by the Demon squadron. The trident has cleanly broken the anchor at the exact center of its length suggesting that attacks carried out are not only accurate by deadly.
The squadron was formed as 407 (Coastal Strike) Squadron in Toomey Island, Hants, England on May 8, 1941. Later redesignated 407 (General Reconnaissance) Squadron on January 29, 1943 the squadron was disbanded in Devonshire on June 4, 1945. On July 1, 1952 it was re-formed as a maritime reconnaissance squadron and was redesignated a maritime patrol squadron on July 17, 1956. Still operational, VP-407 flies CP-140 Aurora from CFB Comox, British Columbia.
