Significance

This squadron was the first RCAF bomber squadron to go overseas, and was the only RCAF pathfinder squadron. This badge design adopts the eagle's head as its device to suggest leadership, and was an element of the pathfinder badge.

Remarks

This squadron was formed at Drilfield, Yorkshire, England on April 23, 1941 and disbanded on September 5, 1945. It was later re-formed as a maritime reconnaissance squadron at Greenwood, Nova Scotia on March 31, 1950, and was redesignated a maritime patrol squadron on July 17, 1956. Still operational, VP-405 flies the CP-140 Aurora from CFB Greenwood, Nova Scotia
